Today, in honor of Columbus day, my Norwegian professor baked cookies shaped like viking ships. The Viking settlement L'anse aux Meadows, discovered in 1963 by the Norwegian explorer Helge Ingstad and his wife, proved that the first non-native people to settle in North American were the Norse explorers (who arrived about 500 years before Columbus).
